President's Update for May 2016

I hope that each of you have had the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful weather and fantastic sunshine that May has ushered in. I do have a few updates that I want to share with you.

AASAP Scholarships

The AASAP Scholarship competition is now open. As with last year, all AASAP scholarships will be using a common application this year. The application deadline is June 15th. Additional scholarship info can be found at:

AASAP TRIO Achiever

The nomination form is now available for the Arkansas TRIO Achiever competition. I encourage you to nominate one of your outstanding TRIO Alums for this award. The deadline to submit TRIO Achiever nominations is July 15th. Nomination details can be found at:

2016 Fall Conference

The 2016 Fall Conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Little Rock from Sunday, October 2nd to Tuesday, October 4th. Conference planning is ongoing and more information will be coming soon!

A big thank you to the Southern Arkansas University TRIO Programs for hosting an amazing Spring Leadership conference in April and providing a great day of professional development. And another big thank you to the University of Central Arkansas Upward Bound Program for hosting our TRIO Day in March and providing a great event for students to learn and network.

A Sweet Celebration Honoring Talent Search

During the 2015 Fall Conference, AASAP will be celebrating Talent Search’s 50 years of service to TRIO eligible students. This celebration will be open to alumni from all TRIO programs so please share the graphic below with your program alumni. As indicated on the invitation, we do ask that any alumni who plan to attend complete the RSVP form at the link provided.

In addition, we hope that all conference attendees will join us for this sweet celebration and will pick up a complimentary event ticket at registration. The ticket for this event entitles the holder to enjoy a (pre-dinner) TRIO of Snacks which includes a mini Pub Cookie, a mini Root beer Float, and a mini Gelato. Call for Proposals

AASAP is now accepting proposals for conference concurrent sessions. The conference theme is “Growing opportunities. Rooted in success.” Proposal submissions should address topics relevant to TRIO programs and personnel such as advocacy, education, technology, best practice, membership, and professional development. Workshop length should be 50 minutes which includes 10 minutes for questions. Proposals need to be submitted by August 30th and will be reviewed based on interest, originality, expertise of presenter(s), and relevance to the conference theme. Call for Moderators

AASAP is looking for volunteers to serve as concurrent session moderators. As a moderator, you will provide a service to both session presenters and participants by making sure each session runs smoothly. Your responsibilities will include: attending a brief orientation, meeting the speaker before the session, keeping the speaker on time, asking for questions from the audience, and overseeing the session evaluations. Annual AASAP Conference - October 3-6, 2015

Greetings!  I wanted to update everyone on the 2015 Fall Conference. -Jeanette Youngblood (President-Elect)

1.      Conference Registration:

Registration for the AASAP 2015 Fall Conference is open and can be accessed at the following link:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/aasap-2015-fall-conference-tickets-17782432735

When you log in to the conference registration page, you will find that there are multiple registration options for the conference depending on:   1) when you register (early or regular),  2) how you choose to pay (additional fees are required when paying by credit/debit card), and 3) whether or not you are an AASAP member.  Please note that your 2015-2016 membership dues (additional info will be provided in the coming weeks) must be paid by the 2015 Fall Conference in order to receive the member rate.    

Early Bird Registration submitted by September 4, 2015  **For individuals who will pay 2015-2016 AASAP membership dues by the conference

$200 (Check/PO only) OR $200 + fees (Credit/Debit Cards)

Regular Registration submitted by September 30, 2015  **For individuals who will pay 2015-2016 AASAP membership dues by the conference

$225 (Check/PO only) OR $225 + fees (Credit/Debit Cards)

Non-Member Registration submitted by September 30, 2015  **For individuals who do not pay 2015-2016 AASAP membership dues by the conference

2.     Hotel Information:

The 2015 Fall Conference will be held in the Arlington Hotel in downtown Hot Springs, AR.  The following rates have been secured for the conference.   Room rate includes a self-service breakfast buffet in the Conference Center on the mornings of Monday, October 5th and Tuesday, October 6th.    If you are not staying at The Arlington but would like to purchase a breakfast buffet ticket, they are available on the registration website.  If you are staying at the Arlington, you are not required to purchase a breakfast buffet ticket.

The Cut-Off Date (last day AASAP reserved room block is available) is Friday September 4, 2015.   

Room Type & Rate

Standard Single/One Adult: $123.00 + Tax

Standard Double/Two Adults:  $147.00 + Tax

Standard Triple/Three Adults:  $171.00 + Tax

Standard Quad/Four Adults:  $195.00 + Tax

Current room tax is 14.5% (tax rates are subject to change).

Instructions:  When making an individual guest room reservation, your conference attendees can call The Arlington directly (800.643.1502 or 501.623.7771) or go to www.arlingtonhotel.com , click the “Reservations” tab, enter the correct conference dates, and enter AASAP in the “Promo Code” box.  This will pull up Arkansas Association of Student Assistance Programs reserved room block & discounted guest room rate so a room reservation can be made.
