Call for Proposals

AASAP 2016 Annual Conference

Proposals for 50 minute concurrent session presentations are solicited.  Submissions should be relevant to issues affecting TRIO programs and personnel.  Examples of possible topics include:

  • Advocacy
  • Best Practices
  • Education
  • Membership
  • Technology
  • Professional Development

In addition, this year we are aiming to have multiple CONFERENCE STRANDS in which individuals, no matter their role in TRIO, will find sessions directly relevant to their daily work.  See below for 2016 STRANDS and possible presentation ideas/topics.

Proposals will be evaluated based on interest, originality, expertise of presenters, and relevance to the conference theme.  Plan on 45 minutes for presentation time and 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion.   Completed proposal information must be received by August 19, 2016 to allow time for conference schedule planning.  Starting as soon as possible, we are reviewing proposals in the order in which they are submitted. An email detailing the final status of selected proposals will be sent no later than September 7, 2016.

2016 AASAP Conference Strands

Some of the strands we hope to include this year are and possible topics to include:

-Newcomer:  Learn the TRIO History/Basics; Newcomer’s Networking Opportunities; Where You Fit in the Big Picture (Understanding the Purpose of State, Regional, and National TRIO Organizations); TRIO Advocacy; and/or other important sessions to help newcomers assimilate into TRIO.

-Supervision & Leadership:  Hiring & Training High Quality Staff; Using Your Data To Prove Program Effectiveness & Success; APR Talk; Supervising and Managing Difficult Employees; On-Boarding Success & Creating a New Employee Training Program/Boot Camp; Your Budgeting Questions Answered; Developing a Policies & Procedures Manual; etc.

-Advising Essentials:  Workshop/Curriculum Creation; Academic Advising How-To’s; Developing Quality Summer Programming; Utilizing Technology to Reach Your Students; and other relevant topics for Academic Advisors/Counselors/Specialists.

-College Access & Success Topics:  Addressing Summer Melt; Developing and Implementing Successful Tutoring & Mentoring Programs; any other hot topics relevant to the TRIO profession.

Note: Unfortunately, no honorarium can be offered for these presentations, and all presenters must register for the conference.


 

Call for Moderators

AASAP 2016 Annual Conference

AASAP is looking for volunteers to serve as concurrent session moderators.  As a moderator, you will provide a service to both session presenters and participants by making sure each session runs smoothly.  Your responsibilities will include:  attending a brief orientation, meeting the speaker before the session, keeping the speaker on time, asking for questions from the audience, and overseeing the session evaluations.  Individuals selected to serve as moderators will be contacted prior to the conference for confirmation.
